Mark Twain Park - Richardson, Texas

5-12 years old structure
Large park and school in the distance
 restroom and covered pavillion
toddler structure

Name: Mark Twain Park
Location: Larkspur and Glenville

1. How big is the park? And what are the amenities?
This is a decent-sized park.  There are three play structures: one for toddlers, one recommended for ages 5-12 and one larger one.  There is a baseball field and a large green area where the kids can run around.  The restrooms were acceptable (not great, but relatively clean and functional).  There was a small covered pavilion with one picnic table, and there were a couple of benches on the edges of the play area.

2. Is it enclosed or covered?
The park is not enclosed or covered.

3. What ages?
This park is great for two year olds (possibly even slightly younger on the toddler structure), and with the varied play structures, it would probably be good for kids of any age.

4. How safe is it?
This park is pretty safe.  It is in a quiet neighborhood, and even though it is not enclosed, it is at least 30 yards from the road/parking lot in all directions.

5. Pros: Plenty of things to play on.  Great for all ages.

6. Cons: This park is right next to an elementary school.  We went during spring break, and no one was there, but I am not sure how that might change when school is in session.  Also, there isn't much shade.  The few benches are almost completely exposed.

Crowley Park - Richardson, Texas

Sign states that the park is good for 5-12 year olds. My three year olds had fun with most of the elements.

My girls particularly liked these funny steps.
There is a hole in the middle of this platform, which is pretty high off the ground. So if you  have young toddlers beware.

Climbing up the feature that leads to the hole in the top platform.
This sign says the smaller play equipment is good for 2-5 year olds.
I'm not sure if a two year old could do this rock wall or not, but my 3 year old's loved it.

Low flat steps for the younger crowd.

Although this slide was pretty steep for a younger toddler.

 Restrooms
Small pond with turtles and ducks in it. I saw some people fishing too.

1. How big is the park? And what are the amenities?
This is a good size park. There are two play structures, a swingset, covered pavilion, picnic tables with grills, plenty of benches, a small pond, baseball diamonds and restrooms. There was also a parking lot.

2. Is it enclosed or covered?
The park was not enlcosed or covered, but the pavilion was covered.
3. What ages?
The signs say 2-12 year olds.

4. How safe is it?
I rate this park high for safety. There is a pond but it is far away from the play structure, as is the parking lot.

5. Pros: The girls and I really liked this park. I liked the layout, the restrooms were close to both the parking lot and the play structures.

6. Cons: None I can think of.

Breckinridge Park (Entrance B) - Richardson, Texas

Two playground structures (smaller one behind the larger one.)

Restrooms located near parking lot. They are VERY far away from the playground. And they were gross. The toilet seat wouldn't stay down and the entire floor was wet. I'm a girl who is used to latrines and this was worse than I could stand. I did use this same restroom last summer and it was fine, so hopefully it will be cleaned soon.

 This is the larger playground.

A gazebo located pretty far from the park. We walked over to it and had a picnic at the tables. There is a grill behind the gazebo.

The smaller structure. Except for the monkey bars this would be perfect for a 18 month old.

Another view of the smaller structure.

Another view of the larger structure. This was still low to the ground for the most part so almost all of it was perfect for my three year olds.

We were at the playground at Entrance B today. There is also a playground at Entrance C.

1. How big is the park? And what are the amenities?
This park is huge. It is 417.13 acres. The entire park has 3 pavilions, picnic tables, grills, benches, soccer fields, playgrounds, lake, 4.5 miles of trails and restrooms. At Entrance B there is one pavilion, and two play structures. The playground is far away from the parking lot.

2. Is it enclosed or covered?
It is not enclosed or covered. But it is far away from cars. The play structure is a decent amount away from the lake.

3. What ages?
Entrance B park is great for the youngest of park goers up to middle schoolers I'd say.

4. How safe is it?
I rate this park high for safety. It is wide open so even if you have a runner, they can't get too far away, into anything dangerous. There is the lake, which does not have a barrier, but it is a good distance from the playground.

5. Pros: Lots to do at this playground. You can play on the structure, have a picnic by the lake or in the pavilion, run through the grass or play in the dense area of trees.

6. Cons: The restrooms were pretty gross on this visit to the park.
